September 1. Every year it happens. And every year, it’s received as an inhospitable truth. The round gentleness of Summer recedes and in its place is the sharpening of Fall. I feel it in the air and see it in the changing blue of the sky and it rubs me the wrong way. There’s no gracious, mellow transition out of Summer. One day, usually in early August, you find your inbox flooded with requests for school forms, Bible Study registration, sign ups for charities and other philanthropic organizations and just like that Summer has been pushed aside.
Maybe, like me, you’re not ready to let go and wondering where do we go from here; since as they say, Winter is coming. Well, we release Summer, letting her go, but giving her the send off she deserves. And bringing the best of Summer’s ease into the deepening shadow of Fall, we reorient and transition.
Case in point, the dress below is perfect for a Labor Day send-off party.
This airy linen dress is on sale and would be the perfect dress for closing out your Summer fun; then add a black leather jacket (or this vegan version for half the price) and add knee high boots and you’ve eased right into Fall.
